Ever. I've decided to go ahead and get my own domain name and put ALL my home education stuff on it. It will have my ebooks, montessori materials, unit studies, articles etc. It MAY have a blog but I'm not sure yet.

I will be leaving this blog here (but removing the Montessori stuff) because people may still want to read it and I'll post a message when the new site is ready (when Nik the web-guy get's round to setting it up grrr!)

If you're still interested to read about me and my life, feel free to drop round to my general blog BUT, for those with sensitive dispositions, I'd give it a miss. I'm not going to make an apologies for what I write there and it is nothing like this blog (I tend NOT to be sugary-nice all the time lol!), I also, occasionally write about personal issues. It's up to you whether you read it or not but don't leave me snotty messages if you do and then don't agree with something I've put lol!

So, I shall say TTFN and extend an invitation to my new website-warming when it's decorated n looking nice :)Timtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7907718.post-1153729862690037482006-07-24T09:28:00.000+01:002006-07-24T09:31:02.703+01:00A LINKReally not much to blog about on the home-ed front as we're all on hols but if you're still interested in what we get up to, you can (if you really want lol!) check out my "day to day" blog here.Timtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7907718.post-1153172156905489672006-07-17T22:21:00.000+01:002006-07-17T22:35:56.990+01:00QUIET?...I GUESS SOOk, so this blog has been made inactive on the Early Years webring due to being "quiet". Well, yep, it has. *Shrugs*

It's summer, it's hot and we've just been lazin' about.

I've also been thinking about this blog and all my little home ed bits dotted about. I'm considering just lumping everything under one website under my own name. I may or may not have a blog. To be honest, after nearly 2 years, I've grown tired of writing it and I guess the being made "inactive" thing kind of reminded what I DON'T like about blogging - it takes me away from why I originally blogged.

I started blogging, back in August 2004, to keep a nice record of Rosie's work and to have something to look back on in years to come. I didn't blog to gain an audience (although I have and, yes, it's nice). I blogged for me and for my family. I've lost sight of that I think.

Anyhoo, for what it's worth - stuff we've been doing lately (apart from Nintendo games, playing in the garden, art etc. We've visited Hurst Castle (in Lymington), planted a potato, nutured our sunflower and garlic into life (we're amazed - we're not that great at growing stuff!), used the telescope lots and played Sims 2 (which I got for my birthday on the 15th)

Oh, and Tim didn't get the job he went for. Bummer.

Back to being "quiet" now.Timtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7907718.post-1152042065310831342006-07-04T20:35:00.000+01:002006-10-05T00:48:48.850+01:00AHOY THERE ME HEARTIES!Another scorching hot day which we spent doing (amongst other things!), the following:

- Hosing down the outside of the house to get rid of the spider webs and a horrifyingly huge spider *shudders*

- Watching the space shuttle Discovery launch (with many "ooooo's!" from Rosie)

- Making a pirate map using cold tea to "age" it. Doctor checked her over thoroughly and discovered more lumps all down her throat and round her neck under her chin and said her glands are all up. She said it's some kind of virus but decided against giving her antibiotics because, apparently, they can make things worse. She's pretty confident it will clear up on it's own within a day or two.

Strangely, April is pretty normal (apart from rubbing her throat in an irritated way every now and again) and is bouncing around the place and playing in the garden as if nothing was wrong. Bizarre!

The rest of us seem fine so heaven only knows where she picked that up from *baffled*Timtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7907718.post-1151381629870638782006-06-27T05:13:00.000+01:002006-06-27T05:13:49.883+01:005.00 A.MYep, I'm up and about. Nope, I've not had ONE SINGLE bit of sleep ALL NIGHT.

*Groan*

April was awake on and off with some kind of mystery ailment (she got hot and sweaty and was fretting - she'd been a bit floppy and strange earlier in the day). It was one of those nights were every time I was about to drop off to sleep she started grizzling and I was wide awake again.

The thing is, being up at this time of the morning might NOT be a bad thing IF I'd managed to get sleep the night before. I just pottered outside to check my plants and it was incredibly fresh and peaceful. Shame I'm too knackered to appreciate it.

Oh, and April appears to be resting ok now so she seems to have got over her blip which, at least, is a relief.Timtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7907718.post-1150727183119050322006-06-19T15:20:00.000+01:002006-06-19T15:26:23.146+01:00ENDLESS STRUGGLESWe are having a nightmare with April at the moment. She is continually (and I do mean continually) doing stuff she shouldn't. Half the time you know she know's that what she is doing is wrong because she starts giggling and trying it on even more. I know that at only 18 months her behaviour cannot be expected to be perfect but it really is starting to take the mick.

I am run ragged with chasing around the house, endlessly pulling her out of places she shouldn't be, or stopping her from pulling the cat around or climbing in the cat litter tray :( I feel like my whole day is spent saying "no, no, NO!!"

It's this sort of thing that makes school look ever more appealling for her BUT I don't want to do it. I want someone to say "hey, she WILL get better!". I want someone to tell me that if we send her to school her behaviour will get worse.

Trying to be a good wife and a good mum is SO hard when I have these constant struggles all the time. It's made worse by the fact that I don't (and have never had) these kind of problems with Rosie.

Oh, and April has started having toddler tantrums too. Fantastic.

Any advice ......anyone?Timtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7907718.post-1150457790264279242006-06-16T12:32:00.000+01:002006-06-16T12:36:30.276+01:00POPPED IN FOR SOME DUSTING AND ...To see if anyone knows what this is:

Ok, it's a spider - that much I can work out lol, but WHAT sort of spider? We are, more or less, on "summer holidays" which means there isn't that much to blog about (lots of laying about playing Nintendo, outdoor play, barbecues n stuff like that)

We are still plodding on with a bit of daily maths (which Rosie is hopeless at) and encouraging nature study regularly but apart from that, all other work has ceased for the time being.

The one thing I will do is update Flickr frequently with new piccies over the summer so go and have a peek if you get the chance :)Timtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7907718.post-1149580189807526572006-06-06T08:42:00.000+01:002006-10-04T01:33:18.476+01:00OUR ANNIVERSARY
8 years ago today, Tim and I got married. It worked! It's fab!

She decided on a topic (off her own back with no prompting from me!), selected various pictures etc that she wanted to use and then sat down and made this (click for enlargement) -

I was MOST impressed! :) I especially like the way she used real leaves to look like lily-pads!

I just need to get some clear page protectors now for our ringbinder so that she can file her pages away neatly and keep them nice.

Rosie's also been beavering away on some other things today - out in the garden while Tim did some "strimming" of some rather long grass, writing up in her nature notebook about a robin that landed on the handlebars of her bike and playing Mario Golf :)

Finally, my shop "news". Me and Mum is still up and running - I am just about to upload my newest e-book - We Love Lapbooks! which is all about ...erm... labpooking lol! April had loads of fun climbing up and down the stairs in the hairdressers house (we live in a bungalow so stairs are something of a novelty)

The weather is supposed to be on and up and up over the next few days and so we're planning some gardening - must mow the jungle out back lol!Timtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7907718.post-1148285482601380832006-05-22T08:49:00.000+01:002006-05-22T09:11:22.786+01:00EXPLANATIONS, UPDATES ....Ok, as you will have seen, my blog has gone somewhat ...erm...minimalist. To be honest, I was totally and utterly fed up with the overall "twee-ness" of it and wanted a complete change. I thought this was going to take AGES but my wonderful hubby got on and did it straight away (I think he knew that every time I looked at it, it was driving me batty lol)

He's also tidied up the sidebar - put the long, strangling archives into a dropdown box, cleared out a few of the links and stuff like that.

It might not be so colourful now, but it feels SOOOO much better (like when you completely de-clutter your house!)

I'm still undecided what to do about Me and Mum. I got some comments from the contact form today and I thought woo-hoooo! BUT it turned out to be some crappy spam type stuff. Fantastic, that didn't take long :( The whole thing is NOT making me happy.

The Montessori site is definately staying :) I can tell from the site stats that it gets a lot of visits and I'm very proud of it (plus we obviously still use some of the stuff!), so stay it will.

On the home-ed front - we have decided NOT to use Oak Meadow (for a variety of reasons too boring to go into here!) I've been reading a lot of Cindy Rushtons books lately about notebooking and so forth so we've decided to do that along with lapbooks and daily maths drills (not going to bother with a "proper" maths curriculum because Rosie does so much maths in a natural day to day way so a quick morning drill is all that's needed). I found a wonderful site where you can get absolutely hundreds of free maths drill worksheets here. What I think we really need to do is just get into a habit of doing "something" every day. That is what has been lacking in our house and I do like to have a bit of structure with the learning and Rosie seems to enjoy it too.

As for the kids themselves ....Rosie is happily enjoying Grade 1 in ballet that she moved up to a few weeks ago (nearly bankrupting us with the cost of the fees and uniform!) She is very excited because the dates of their next "big" show have been fixed for May next year and what the show will be should be announced fairly soon. The Disney one she did last year was wonderful so we can't wait! :) She still has massive eating issues - ie she just doesn't eat, very much. Now, this ISN'T to do with the ballet (in case your wondering!), nope, she has just NEVER eaten very well from the time she was born. Picky doesn't even come close to it and we've tried endless solutions to try and get her to eat (her painfully stick-like arms are starting to seriously worry us) more, but nothing we try works. Any suggestions, most gratefully received. Other than that, she is SUCH a gorgeous child - so sweet and kind, utterly brilliant with April, never moans about doing any homeschool work and desperately keen to help out around the house. I just wish she'd eat more!

April is the cutest little thing. She toddles around, getting under your feet but being so adorable you just can't get annoyed about it lol! She has a hugely increasing vocabulary - "up there!" (when telling us to put Barbie on the back of the sofa so she can knock her down again!), "garden" and "osie" (Rosie!) being her latest words. She (thank heavens!) DOES eat properly - anything and everything in fact and is a chubby little so-and-so (hmmm, wonder where she gets that from!) She likes to scribble with crayons and play with her Tigger radio but most of all she loves to be outside - all the time. She'll point to her trainers, sit on the floor and point to her feet to tell you she wants to go out! She still has the insanely irritating habit of completely emptying the drawers in her bedroom though which drives me mad. I've got to the stage where I don't even bother to sort them now so all her pj's, tshirts and trousers are completely jumbled up where they just get stuffed back in!

Nothing else to report other than I've got a cold but nothing too major thankfully.

So there you go, a little roundup! :)Timtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7907718.post-1148061872605565092006-05-19T19:01:00.000+01:002006-05-20T15:50:42.140+01:00AREN'T WE CUTE?!Saw this over at Merry's blog .....just had to have a go lol!

In order, from the left ...me, Tim, Rosie and April ....

Oddly, we all appear to be the same height lol!Timtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7907718.post-1147979186096153782006-05-18T20:02:00.000+01:002006-05-18T20:06:26.110+01:00FOR MY BENEFIT - OVER THE NEXT WEEK OR SONotes on stuff I want to cover with Rosie...

Science - The Planets
Maths - Telling the time, skip counting (by 2s, 4s, 5s, 10s, 20s, 25s), addition and subtraction, fractions
English - Story writing, spelling work
Geography - Map work, ContinentsTimtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7907718.post-1147941651558223382006-05-18T09:30:00.000+01:002006-05-18T09:40:53.383+01:00SOMETHING'S GOT TO GIVEOk, I've done my usual trick and overstretched myself again. This whole blog and it's various associated sites is becoming out of control, messy and, frankly, a burden. My fault - I always go into things very enthusiastically and then realise I've bitten off more than I can chew!

The thing is - the bottom line - I have children that need an education and a husband that needs my attention more than he's getting and instead I'm spending increasing amounts of time sitting at this computer day in day out! The Oak Meadow curriculum for example - I chose this partly for Rosie's benefit and partly for mine, just so I could get organised and actually start TEACHING her something instead of wasting entire days away. I'm not going to be able to do that if I'm sat at the pute every day and it would be a waste of money, SO a large amount of de-junking needs to take place.

So I am going to take a break - a proper one this time. I'm going to switch off comments temporarily (if comments are there then I keep checking them!). Tim is going to tidy up the blog for me (clearing away old and duff links, generally tidying up the sidebar, maybe simplifying the overall whole look of the blog etc). I'm going to ditch the home blog - simply because I'm not keeping it updated so its a waste of space, the Montessori stuff will stay BUT I'm REALLY not sure about the unit study group or (sadly) the Me and Mum shop. I'm not sure I've got the time or energy to keep adding stuff to it.

The point is, this blog has becoming bigger than me lol!

I'm not sure when I'll be blogging regularly again - couple of weeks perhaps but I really need a break from this whole merry-go-round and do something else for a bit. In the meantime please don't desert me lol! Keep checking back because the blog will be having a bit of a facelift in the next couple of weeks :)

So, a temporary goodbye .....see you all very soon! :)Timtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7907718.post-1147866137527291822006-05-17T12:32:00.000+01:002006-05-17T12:42:17.573+01:00LEARN TO TALK WITH MARIOYes people, this is the latest "educational thing" in our house. Put Mario 64 on the Nintendo, play and teach your baby to talk at the same time! April has learned to say "yahoooo!" (most amusing) and "Okey dokey" from the little plumber. She has also got Bowser's manic (bwa-ha-ha-haaaaa) laugh off perfectly lol!

April's other love at the moment is a raggedy old Barbie doll that Uncle Rob gave her (please don't ask why Uncle Rob had a barbie doll in the first place ....lol). She now carries this madly-out-of-proportion plastic woman around with her, continually saying "Barrrbeeeeee!".

As if that wasn't enough she has also developed a hilarious way of saying goodbye when anyone leaves our house. She'll charge across the living room to the front door going "byyyyeeeeeee!!" as she goes and then run back to the living room window, stick her face against the glass and wave madly. Very cute and very funny :)

Other than that, there's not much going on. Oh, we have decided to use the Oak Meadow curriculum starting from the beginning of June. This does NOT look very good as far as my shop selling my own written curriculum goes, I'm aware of that, but Rosie just SO desperately needs work that allows her to express her creativity and do a tonne of drawing and painting. No other curriculum other than a Waldorfy one does that, hence Oak Meadow (which is more waldorf inspired rather than strictly Waldorf) Anyhow, we've not been able to afford it before, but they've just started offering a subscription service whereby you pay $35 (about £18) a month and access the lessons that way rather than being sent a packaged curriculum in the post. So now it's affordable, we thought we'd have a go.Timtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7907718.post-1147465417475529592006-05-12T21:20:00.000+01:002006-05-12T21:23:37.486+01:00ME AND MUM HOME EDUCATION IS OPEN!Just a quicky - my new curriculum store is now open! We so far have available some of our information guides plus biology lesson plans and a pre-cursive handwriting copybook. History lesson plans and a manuscript handwriting book will be available very soon.

I know that there are some of you out there who have links to the old Me and Mum site (when it was a clothing store), can I please ask again if you can change the links to reflect the change of business? Many thanks!

Anyway, pop by and let me know what you think! :)Timtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7907718.post-1147429186911739182006-05-12T11:10:00.000+01:002006-06-01T00:02:54.216+01:00CHALK PICTURES AND A NEW BOOKWell, we've had some absolutely gorgeous 'n' hot weather here over the last couple of days so much outdoor activity has taken place. Yesterday, Rosie, April and daddy all went out and, amongst other things, drew all over the patio in chalk! Here are their artistic efforts:

First 2 which Tim did - a (rather skinny!) snail and Toad from the Mario games!

Now Rosie's - An Animal Crossing person, 2 drawings in "cave-painting-style" and the front of her playhouse which she decided to decorate!

Finally, today a new book arrived in the post (always cause for MUCH excitement in this family of bookworms!) - Usborne Living World Encyclopedia. Within about 5 seconds of opening it, Rosie had plonked herself down for a good old read - she's still there now! :)

Tim
